A play space designed to stimulate creative interpretation; the Rubber Blanket provides a unique experience for each user. It is a serpentine landscape of peaks and valleys where students may flex their imaginations by themselves or with their mates.

Digital topography was visualized then unrolled to outline the template for a giant quilt, fashioned from salvaged tires. The tires are bolted together then twisted, pulled, pinched and folded to create a variety of unique conditions. Composed of over 600 tires, the patterning of materials creates a monolithic effect that emphasizes the grandeur of the play space and the potential that space affords.

The nature of the quilt is very accommodating and should be experimented with to explore alternative sculptural possibilities. Each tire behaves as seating, shelter, climber and hideaway; their function is limited only by the imagination of the user.
